#4 - Sobonfu Somé - Grief around Sobonfu's death / by Nameh and Sitara

Perhaps not a 'typical' show as Nameh and Sitara share their grief around the death of beloved Sobonfu Somé, “keeper of the rituals.” Sobonfu taught the ancient wisdom, ritual and practices of her ancestors to those in the West. PSA on snotnaming (thanks for the inspiration, Snatam Kaur) and much about Sobonfu's impact, including a dream Sitara had soon after learning of Sobonfu's transition.

Sobonfu left a legacy of videos and written work that all can be accessed. Here are a few examples:
Book: Falling Out of Grace: Meditations on loss, healing and wisdom
Book: The Spirit of Intimacy: Ancient African Teachings in the Ways of Relationships
Book: Women’s Wisdom From the Heart Of Africa

For folks in Oakland, California, there is an event honoring beloved Sobonfu, Feb 20th in Oakland, CA. See this link. Donations are welcomed to help fund the event. Also, Sobonfu's non-profit, Wisdom Springs, Inc. does great work and would be a generous way to continue Sobonfu's work.

Many experience the healing, heart opening energy of Snatam Kaur's music. Here is one of our favorite songs, Angels are Listening. Snatam inspired the PSA term snotnaming, as well as bringing healing, thru music, to so many.

http://www.satnamfest.com In this beautiful live version of Suṉi-ai , Snatam Kaur opens her voice and our hearts. Features an extended section singing "The angels are listening, God is listening, I am listening." She then sings the 8th pauri of Japji with the chorus: Nānak bhagatā sadā vigās suṉi-ai dūkh pāp kā nās.
